Gummy Cavity ml to Finished Piece Weight: RFQ Table

Marketing locked “3 g per piece” on the pouch. The tray you liked in a photo pours closer to 3.8 g once the slurry hits the cavity. That is not a kitchen mystery — it is cavity ml × density never written on the RFQ.

RUUIPON (Shenzhen since 2018) quotes platinum custom gummy molds at MOQ 50, prototype usually 3–7 days after CAD lock, quote ~24h. This page is the ml → finished piece weight decision table brands use before tooling — not the full CAD volume workflow (that lives in gummy cavity volume).

Factory food-grade silicone gummy mold with dense cube cavities about 2 ml each
Catalog cube tray example — about 2 ml water fill per cavity, 315 cavities on a 39 × 28 × 1.4 cm sheet.

When the Label Grams Miss the Cavity

Three places brands lose grams:

  • They quote silhouette mm, not water-fill ml
  • They use room-temp density on a hot deposit
  • They ignore logo emboss volume on small bears

Fix: put target finished grams and measured slurry density on the brief before we cut masters. Weight variance after trays exist: cavity weight variance.

ml × Density → Grams

Working estimate for RFQ (prove on sample pour):

Finished piece weight (g) ≈ cavity water volume (ml) × slurry density (g/ml)

1 ml water ≈ 1 g. Hot gelatin/pectin slurries we see often land about 1.05–1.25 g/ml at deposit temperature — measure yours; do not copy a blog number onto a label claim.

Cavity water mlAt 1.10 g/mlAt 1.20 g/mlTypical use
2 ml~2.2 g~2.4 gSmall cubes / dose pieces
7 ml~7.7 g~8.4 gPill / lozenge style
13.5 ml~14.9 g~16.2 gLarger squares
20 ml~22 g~24 gBar / stick breakers

CAD mass-properties workflow and depositor calibration stay in cavity volume. Pan footprint is a different lock: half-sheet pan-fit.

Factory Catalog Examples (Water ml)

Our shop already tools a large food-grade gummy tray catalog (~85 shapes) with measured outer size, cavity count, and approximate water fill. Brands use these as starting points, then custom-logo or pan-fit when the SKU is the shape. Ask for the PDF on quote / WhatsApp — we send the shape book; this page only samples the ml math.

Factory food-grade silicone gummy mold pill cavities about 7 ml water fill
Pill cavities — about 7 ml water fill; finished grams still need your slurry density.
Factory food-grade silicone gummy mold bar cavities about 20 ml
Bar cavities — about 20 ml water fill; check label claim before you lock art.

Tolerance Band Before You Lock CAD

  • Write target grams and band (example: 8.0 g ±0.3 g) — not “about 8 g”
  • Weigh 10 pieces from the sample tray at your real cool/set
  • If density changes seasonally, re-weigh before assuming the same ml still hits label

Shore for peel after weight is locked: often Shore A 20–40 for gummy trays — confirm formula. Shore guide.

RFQ Fields That Stop Remakes

  1. Target finished piece weight (g) + tolerance band
  2. Slurry density at deposit temperature (or “measure on sample”)
  3. Catalog starting shape (if any) or custom outline / logo
  4. Fill method: flood-scrape / hand / depositor
  5. Food market docs (FDA / LFGB) if retail or Amazon
  6. Tray count: prototype, then MOQ 50

FAQ

Is catalog water ml the same as finished gummy weight?
No. Water ml is volume. Grams need density. Use the table as a planning band, then prove on sample.

Can you change ml without a new mold?
Not meaningfully. Geometry is locked in the tray. Wrong ml → remake or relabel.

Do you sell catalog trays at MOQ 1?
Brand programs are quoted as soft tooling / matching lots — typically MOQ 50 after sample for production designs. Ask which catalog SKUs are available for your path.

Deeper CAD math?
Gummy cavity volume covers mass properties and depositor calibration.
